My Vote Counts has extensively covered and campaigned on the private funding of political parties. Our research has now taken us to explore the public funding of political parties. My Vote Counts’ research aims to:
1) Inform the public of how the law regulates public funding;
2) Illustrate the need for a single piece of legislation to allocate, record and disclose records of public funding; and
3) Highlight the barriers to South Africans knowing how much each party receives in public funds.
In 2020, we put together a report titled How Many Rands For Your Vote? In it we detail exactly why public funding is key to the functioning and maintaining of our political system, where public funding comes from and how it is allocated.
You can find the report here.
