My Vote Counts notes the complaint lodged with the Public Protector by General Bantu Holomisa this week. The basis of the complaint is that the ANC used around R40 million of funds secured from the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) to pay ANC staff salaries, amongst other things. ‘While the veracity of the complaint has not yet been established, it raises very serious concerns regarding the lack of transparency in relation to the funding of political parties as well as the possible abuse of state resources for narrow political gain.’, said MVC campaign coordinator, Judith February.

February went on to say that the argument for transparency must now become a matter of priority specifically ahead of the local government elections.

MVC was hopeful that a the Public Protector’s office would deal swiftly with Holomisa’s very serious complaint in order that the cloud hanging over the ANC and the PIC could be lifted.
